Redness comes in many forms, from mild to moderate flushing, underlying redness that is always there, rosy cheeks and visible capillaries all the way to severe cases of rosacea.
Redness can be embarrassing, sensitive and painful.
Rosacea affects 1 in 18 people and has varying degrees of severity. For those who suffer, it can have a debilitating effect on ones self-esteem.
Starting with facial flushing, rosacea can progress to persistent redness; thickening of the skin, visible capillaries, raised red bumps and becomes very difficult to hide. Not to be confused with general redness, rosacea tends to affect the cheeks nose and chin. If you think you may have rosacea, help is available but don’t put it off. Rosacea can get progressively worse and with no cure available, effective skin care and management is a long term management option that can help you to feel more comfortable in your own skin.
Known triggers that affect rosacea are:
- Alcohol- dilates capillaries and dehydrates
- Spicy foods- dilates capillaries
- Extreme weather- humid environment, UV exposure
- Heat- hot water, air conditioning
- Skin care- containing fragrances, acids, mineral oils, silicones, emulsifiers and SLS’s
- Make up- some ingredients can exacerbate rosacea
Having worked with many clients suffering from rosacea, we can develop a treatment program that will help manage our symptoms and give you relief.
Visible Capillaries (Often referred to as broken capillaries) and flushing
Cause in part by genetics and your skin type disposition, visible capillaries can be unsightly and embarrassing.
Most commonly found on the cheeks and around the nose, left untreated, redness can become more noticeable.
Caused by varying things, each variation of redness requires a different treatment approach. We have worked with many different types of skin redness and we can confidently tailor a treatment to give you the skin calming result you are looking for.
Genetics- Some of us are blessed with a rosier complexion that others. A thinner skin density is most often seen in clients with fairer skin types.
Ageing- Ageing causes the internal structures of our skin to break down leading to thin skin density. Like when you wrap a gift ina single layer of tissues paper, you can see what is underneath.
Sun Damage- UVA and UVB break down the internal structures within your skin and lead to visible capillaries
Make up and Skin Care- Some ingredients in skin care can exacerbate underlying redness and leave your skin red and inflamed. Long term use of these products and cause permanent redness in the skin.
Medical conditions- high blood pressure, sluggish digestive system, hormonal (during pregnancy), allergies (hay fever)
Friction or pressure- i.e. where your reading glasses sit, picking and squeezing pimples etc.
Diet and Lifestyle- Alcohol, spicy food, caffeine, stress etc.
Different redness conditions and causes require specific treatment solutions- jumping straight in with a laser treatment isn’t always the best option and in some cases can exacerbate the condition that was bothering you.
We have many successful options for improving redness, relieving the irritation and giving you skin that you love to be in!
Treatment options for redness can include–
- Skin care customised to your skin
